The Caribbean Institute of Management Consultants
The Caribbean Institute of Certified Management Consultants (CICMC) was established in 2007, as a non-profit organization, to regulate the practice of management consultancy, to advocate for the profession and to advance the effectiveness of management consulting practices and processes in the region. In 2020 the organisation was rebranded as the Caribbean Institute of Management Consultants (CIMC).
Since inception, with the institutional support of Caribbean Export Development Agency and other regional stakeholders, CIMC has expanded its footprint throughout the Caribbean region and is regarded as the champion of advocacy, networking support, capacity development and education for the region’s consulting professionals.
Our Mission Statement of “Building capacity of members, creating value for clients, developing competitive advantages”, speaks to our institutional focus and is our driving force.
CIMC’s Board of Directors, elected in 2021, at the November Annual General Meeting, reflects the regional diversity of our membership. CIMC members are drawn from the CARIFORUM member States. CIMC is an affiliated institution of the International Council of Certified Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), a network of over 56,000 professional Consultants, representing ‘thought leaders’ from around the world.
CIMC strives to enhance the professionalism and recognition of the Management Consulting profession in the Caribbean. We are committed to upholding the ethical and professional standards outlined in our Code of Professional Conduct.
We facilitate our members in attaining the Certified Management Consultant™ (CMC®) credential promoted by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI). This is the only global professional management consulting designation with recognition in over 47 countries and offered exclusively in the Caribbean region by the CIMC. This global standard for management consultancy has already now been adopted by CARICOM, and will shortly become an ISO standard. The ICMCI was instrumental in developing the the ISO 20700 Standard for consultancy services, which is an important complement to the CMC, the international certification for management consultants.
The international designation encourages continuous professional development and assesses whether candidates meet the global standard in respect of:
- Business Competence – demonstrating insight of the client’s business and processes, the market sector and the national economy and culture
- Technical Competence – demonstrating of functional or sectoral specialisation, as well as analytical and problem solving skills
- Consulting Competence – demonstration of the consulting process in client engagements, use of appropriate consulting tools and management of risk and quality related issues
- Professional Competence – adherence to the code of conduct and professional ethics, and demonstrating effective personal and interpersonal skills
The CMC® certification is awarded to consultants who have met global standards for competence, ethics, and results. Candidates for this competency based qualification must submit to a rigorous vetting process that includes receiving feedback from clients, documenting consulting experiences, online assessments of consulting, practice and ethics, and a panel interview by senior CMCs.
No other qualification covers this important range for management consultants. In adhering to this competency based qualification, all CMCs are required to undertake and report on their continuing professional development and practice.
CIMC uses global standards and accreditation as benchmarks to enhance the regional and international competitiveness of our members. Through workshops and seminars, including the core workshop on the Principles and Practices of Management Consulting, CIMC supports our members in developing the knowledge and competencies required to achieve CMC designation.
In addition, ongoing training and development activities at both regional and national levels also contribute to enhancing the quality of service provided to clients. Members are better prepared to collaborate with other Business Support Organisations (BSO’s) in strengthening capabilities of both public and private sector entities towards increasing their competitiveness. We pay special attention to facilitating the development of skills for using information technology more effectively in our management consulting practice.
